Our Process

OUR MAKE PROCESS
We started this company with several radical ideas that should not be radical – The first is to make ice cream with love and good intentions – Make ice cream in a way that’s good for people, animals and the planet. Our story is real. We are not a big multi-national corporation and we do not desire to ever be one. We like things we can see, taste and touch BEFORE we put them in our ice cream.

There are so many nuances in what we do. We cannot just put it on a time-chart and demand that it be done – This is more of a work of Art than a hard science.

WHY A SINGLE HERD AND WHY ORGANIC MILK AND CREAM?
The number one and number two ingredients in our ice cream are Milk and then Cream – That is it.

While most ice cream companies buy milk on the open market from multiple farms we contracted the output from a single herd so we can control what goes into our product from the beginning.  We use only Organic milk and Organic cream and our organic milk & cream are certified by MOSA Certified Organic – the largest livestock certifier in the US.

Why Organic – Very simple – Better quality of food and better quality of treatment or our herd produces better quality milk. By forgoing chemicals in our fields, we keep everyone from the cows to our team to our consumers much healthier.

We believe that grazing in pastures and enjoying the sun is how cows were meant to live and it is how we want them to live – besides, it makes our cows happier! Happy cows make better milk. Our cows are treated with the respect due all living things. We visit the cows often and we know them very well. We talk to them when we visit and we thank them for their milk.

Some people think we are crazy but we think we are doing things right – Does any other ice cream company do what we do?

THE REST OF THE INGREDIENTS
A second radical idea that should not be radical is to only use the best ingredients we can source, not the least expensive but the best. There are two parts to the best ingredients –

First is that we believe that there is a difference between best and good enough – Most ice cream is good enough – we want to be the best and will only accept the best. That is why we know each of our ingredient suppliers and why we meet with them and talk to them constantly and are always asking if something better is being made that we can use.

Second is small local suppliers – We try whenever we can to use local suppliers who share our visions. We want to work with suppliers that we can reach out and touch or go and visit to see our ingredients being made. We believe that in most cases a smaller supplier will be a better partner and we can both be more supportive of each others growth – Happier ingredients makes better ice cream!

To provide specific examples our milk & cream comes from a single herd family owned farm. Our bourbon comes from a local award winning distillery and our coffee comes from a well know local coffee house. Finally, our Vanilla really does come from Indonesia!

OUR TEAM WHO MAKES THE ICE CREAM
This part is very special to us and we will not skimp here. We pay fair wages and we value the contributions of each and every team member for who they are what they want to be.

We are not a large corporation – Our team members are not numbers – They have names and families and we are all responsible for each others success and failures!

We live and succeed by the following – TEAMWORK – EVERYONE HAS INPUT – MUTUAL RESPECT – MAKING THE BEST ICE CREAM IN AMERICA IS THE GOAL AND QUALITY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WE DO

 In the end – Our mission is to make better and happier ice cream for our customers and in the process touch a few lives in a positive manner and help make the world a better place!
